ESPECH guarantees that infants, children and adults have access to health and nutrition services. Since 2009, ESPECH has helped to save 8 million lives by reducing the number of children who die before the age of five. We have also helped lower the number of malnourished children with stunted growth. Today, there are 49 million fewer children who are stunted. We revolutionized the delivery of health care in some of the world's most inaccessible regions, by pioneering programmes that treat children near to home so they may receive lifesaving treatment before it is too late.
45 million people in 43 countries are threatened by famine. The worldwide food crisis caused by the war in Ukraine poses additional dangers to children.
Millions of children in the world's most fragile areas across Africa and the Middle East could become ill or die from hunger if wheat prices continue to soar. In countries such as South Sudan and the Sahel, access to food has been restricted for years by persistent violence. In Kenya, 3.5 million people are severely malnourished. Nearly 500,000 people in Somalia and Ethiopia are experiencing famine-like circumstances.
COVID-19 exacerbated the effects of war and climate change, bringing millions of children worldwide to the brink of famine. There is no cure for hunger, but there is a remedy if we act immediately. The short-term cure is providing food. The long-term solution is helping communities to become self-sufficient, through education.
We are a dynamic organization working in partnership with people in Sierra Leone, Uganda, Kenya, Pakistan, India and Tanzania to build a world where everyone can work with pride for a better future. To achieve this goal, we help marginalized and disadvantaged groups build more secure economic foundations.
ESPECH’s mission is to equip people in their own communities to fight poverty, inequality, and injustice. We support community-driven, locally led sustainable development initiatives that address real problems and priorities.
